Service Description

Play can offer children a natural and creative way to explore their thoughts and feelings, without needing to rely solely on words. In play therapy sessions, children are supported by a trained therapist to express themselves through a range of creative media, including drawing and painting, water and clay, sand tray and miniatures, guided imagery and relaxation, drama and puppetry, poetry, movement, and music. Talking about difficulties can be challenging for children. They may not yet have the words to describe how they feel or understand why they behave in certain ways. Through play, a therapist can gently support a child to explore and make sense of their experiences at their own pace. Play therapy provides a safe and supportive space where children can begin to process difficult emotions and experiences. Sessions aim to support the development of healthy, resilient relationships and help children work through experiences that may feel overwhelming or preoccupying. When difficult feelings are held without support, they can impact learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation. Using play allows children to express and explore these experiences through story and metaphor, which can feel safer and less intense. If you are interested in exploring play therapy for your child, we can connect you with a qualified play therapist. They will arrange an initial assessment to consider whether this approach may be helpful.
